Win an iPad or Galaxy Tab from Waze and CrackBerry.com!

Between now and November 10th, we're partnering with Waze to give away an iPad or an Android Galaxy Tab (obviously if this was happening later, we'd go BlackBerry PlayBook here, but it can't hurt to win a tablet of any kind, right?). Here's how it works:
- Download and install Waze from your mobile browser.
- Drive around with Waze and collect "Road Goodies" - which basically just means drive over the CrackBerry logos as you move about your city. As you can see above, they are *everywhere*.
- It's a competition between iPhone users, Android users, and BlackBerry users - which is to say you're up against the kids from TiPb and Android Central. Whichever site whose users collect the most Road Goodies will win and be able to give a tablet away to one of their users - selected randomly from amongst the top 25 collectors. Remember - you only get credit for driving over the CrackBerry icons.
- That's it! Use Waze, collect Road Goodies, and stick it to those iPhone and Android users while automatically getting a chance to win an iPad or Tab
What's Waze, then? It's a free social mapping tool: you can get directions, find out where the traffic is, ping other users, and generally find your way around while helping other Waze users get better location and traffic information. Check out the full details on the Waze Blog.

Machzy Nov 1, 2010 at 10:43 am
I can't tell the difference between CB icons and the other non-CB icons.
A little help?
flyersfan76 Nov 1, 2010 at 10:47 am
I'll bite. Although I will apologize to all here. I used to be on the road 8 hours a day now I'm in an office but I will try anyway.
azz1 Nov 1, 2010 at 10:56 am
Wow this is going to be challenging. Its hard to drive and look at the screen I get dizzy doing it but I will try
TFancher Nov 1, 2010 at 11:21 am
Careful now... Cops might think you are texting and driving, you'll get a nice fat ticket.
thickwdimples Nov 1, 2010 at 10:58 am
Pick me I want it. Please... LOL I want it
WolfmanRobby Nov 1, 2010 at 10:58 am
This is one Crackberry contest I won't be in!
Not because I would not like a new Galaxy Tab, it's because WAZE is one of the absolute WORST programs I've ever used!
I've tried it several times. I thought it was just the low memory in my 9000 that caused it to be sluggish and suck the life out of the battery. But, I tried it again when I got my 9700 and, it is an absolute data and GPS HOG! And, you would think the way it pounds the network and constantly pings the GPS, it would be accurate. But, it would show me on streets 2 or 3 blocks from where I was.
It's not the GPS in the phone because I could shut down WAZE, fire up good old Google Maps and be accurate within 3 meters as soon as it came up.
Let the iPhone guys have this one!
Machzy Nov 1, 2010 at 11:06 am
I just tried it right now, and right off the bat - it sucks for the Torch. I can only really use it in landscape mode. The touch on it isn't very responsive (when it works) and it's already crashed on me once already.
I'll give it a bit more time, but we'll see....
TFancher Nov 1, 2010 at 11:19 am
Hmm Blackberry Storm 2 - 9550. App downloads and runs... but the touch interface isnt working... I cant even select a field to create an account or log in. =(
diggy15 Nov 1, 2010 at 11:59 am
This program is definitely not ready to be on the Storm until they can fix the touch interface.
WolfmanRobby Nov 1, 2010 at 11:31 am
Seems I'm not the only one who has had nothing but problems with this app.
Including the Account Creation / Log In Issues. Try doing a battery pull, again. It took me 3 or 4 battery pulls before it let me create an account or log in.
BENZ_O Nov 1, 2010 at 11:00 am
pleaseeee :)
SCrid2000 Nov 1, 2010 at 11:05 am
I SERIOUSLY doubt CrackBerry has a chance in this against all the android phones out there.
scottaco Nov 1, 2010 at 11:36 am
..you can also pick up the android and iphone icons, preventing them from getting them (I believe. I'll be testing this theory out in a few minutes.) Judging by the areas I drive in, there's not too many waze users anyway, nevermind specific devices.
Sashko Nov 1, 2010 at 11:30 am
This app is making my BB experience VERY painful. The maps aren't loading, it's making my BB lag, and it's very difficult selecting things (such as for instance the "OK" button when creating an account isn't easy to get as the highlighted field keeps moving unpredictably).
All-in-all, especially considering there's a non-BB prize, this contest is a rather disappointment :-(
Hamp Nov 1, 2010 at 11:17 am
Who has the time or money to just DRIVE around these days!
Culex316 Nov 1, 2010 at 11:35 am
..no one is pointing a gun to your head and forcing you to drive around.
Hamp Nov 1, 2010 at 12:33 pm
It's just a statement, no need to get personal.
scottaco Nov 1, 2010 at 11:39 am
You might be surprised how many you can pick up just driving your normal route or changing it one street at a time.
Sashko Nov 1, 2010 at 11:58 am
What do you mean "in this economy?" This will actually help the economy. Let's see, more sales in gas, running the life of the vehicle quicker therefore sooner required repairs/replacements of vehicles. It's all in our economy's favor ;-)
And BTW, I don't see why you can't bike or walk the areas, if driving happens to be an issue for you :-)
Hamp Nov 1, 2010 at 12:42 pm
As I stated above, just making a statement. Now maybe most people do have the resources to do that. I'm just saying nowadays, the average person can't just walk or bike considering the distances for the ppoints. Most Americans don't think that way.
Hamp Nov 1, 2010 at 12:42 pm

litig8or98 Nov 1, 2010 at 3:16 pm
But if you're in the US, you're not making either the gas or the cars. There goes your economy argument. At least here in Alberta, we're making the gas...but I still wouldn't waste it for this contest.
dancadman Nov 1, 2010 at 11:36 am
Considering that they don't have a touch version available yet, and all the BB versions are "Beta", this doesn't seem fair to the BB community....
Marc_Paradise Nov 1, 2010 at 11:55 am
Wow. Just when you thought "social apps" couldn't get any more pointless!
garymait Nov 1, 2010 at 11:58 am
I use a GPS a lot on the road but the last thing I need is to keep my eyes glued to it to spot icons. This is the sort of thing that causes lawmakers to look at banning devices that distract in the car. Please reconsider this type of contest.

IPad here i Come!!
jwmax Nov 1, 2010 at 12:05 pm
Sorry, totally dumb for Crackberry to be promoting this. At least negotiate a gift cert. for playbook. Who wants the other two - just toys.
onbberry Nov 1, 2010 at 12:39 pm
app. Not entirely useless, at least esso, shell and many other oil companies will benefit!

It's usable on the Torch. Have to use the trackpad, though. Anyone figure out how to not have foursquare checkins go to twitter?
WolfmanRobby Nov 1, 2010 at 3:00 pm
Either go to the Twitter site and revoke FourSquare's permissions. Or, go the the FourSquare site and turn off the update to Twitter there.
Either way works.
rynoondew Nov 1, 2010 at 1:39 pm
doesnt work with the storm.. I can get the maps going and see myself driving down the road..I even collected 40 points this morning.. However I am not able to log in because the touch support on the Storm is non-existent... SAD!!!
shona67 Nov 1, 2010 at 2:07 pm
I want iPAD!!!
Hamp Nov 1, 2010 at 2:54 pm
90% of my route to work is interstate travel. Now, I'm not totally against this but you do have to make an effort to hit most of the points represented on the map. I did notice that even if you have a Blackberry and you cross an Android or iPhone location, it still registers! So does that mean you score for the other sites or do those points count towards your overall count and Crackberry?
Jaredius Nov 1, 2010 at 2:57 pm
I cannot leave this on my 9700 because it taxed my memory to the point my phone was lagging.
Sorry guys.
litig8or98 Nov 1, 2010 at 3:12 pm
Putting aside the ethics of running a contest that encourages people to drive around for no good reason (I'm not the world's biggest tree-hugger, but even I can see that this is environmentally irresponsible), there doesn't seem to be any "weighting" to account for the number of potential users on each platform. It would be better if it was based on the "average" number of Road Goodies collected by members in each group. And the prize eligibility should be more randomized...don't reward the top 25 users that spent days doing nothing but driving around aimlessly. Eligibility should just be based on recovering a set number, say ten, Road Goodies.
Nope...don't think I'll be giving this one a try.
laollis Nov 1, 2010 at 3:15 pm
I'd love the iPad. Crackberry and Waze are great.
TeaBoy Nov 1, 2010 at 3:51 pm
Iphone goodie up ahead!! U turn!! oh no ambush by a android from behind!! Crash throught the house to aviod them!!
NicoleW78 Nov 1, 2010 at 4:26 pm
Not only is it only available in beta for the Blackberries, but it appears that there are NO "Road Goodies" in my area. Took FOREVER to connect to GPS (had to have BBMaps running first and then start Waze) but once I did, I did not see any of the Road Goodies on the map, no matter whether I was zoomed in or out. Given that it is a mega battery and memory hog, I doubt I'll have this on for much longer. Too bad.
Philldoe Nov 1, 2010 at 4:49 pm
So who was the idiot who thought it would be good to give out apple products on a blackberry site?
Seriously, fuckin' fail.
gthomas20 Nov 1, 2010 at 5:25 pm
Supported Phones: Bold 9000/9700, Tour 9630, Curve 8900.

RedVixen81 Nov 1, 2010 at 5:47 pm
If I collect the other goodies does the points go to them or does it keep them from getting them?there are a lot on my route home
chaloney Nov 1, 2010 at 7:05 pm
downloads and runs on my storm2 but completely worthless as noted above. Already deleted. Sounds like a cool idea though
jalax1 Nov 1, 2010 at 7:32 pm
Both would be awesome to have. Really hope I win.

Ipad that's what. I need ....
breakmedown Nov 2, 2010 at 3:32 am
I downloaded this and have collected a few of the "goodies" i just have to wonder if I'll need to register an email address to actually participate.
Also, I agree that the app isn't that great. The way it handles the street names and how laggy it is makes Google Maps way better for me. Also, when it was telling me I had "real time updates" or whatever, they were literally 100s of miles away because I don't live close to anyone else who uses this program (it seems). This all considering that I'm one of the "supported" devices (the 8900) with minimal other apps installed.
So I'll keep it for a few more days, see what kind of points I can rack up, and most likely get rid of it afterwards.
dale.elder Nov 2, 2010 at 9:44 am
This won't even work on the Storm 2. I even went to the website and got the updated beta and still didn't work
uzuma Nov 2, 2010 at 1:39 pm
Wow what a great app! Real fast and accurate. I was driving down a highway when all of a sudden I hear sirens coming from every direction. Look at the map on the map and it already has the accident little icon with full info. Very nice.
