Twitter 2.0 for BlackBerry now available

First announced at BlackBerry World and then released in the BlackBerry Beta Zone earlier this month, Twitter 2.0 is now officially available. The app will be rolling out to users via BlackBerry App World over the next 24 hours, so if you don't see it now keep checking back. In addition to an overhauled UI, Twitter 2.0 features a redesigned navigation bar, single search screen, new app header (for better external notifications) and more. Twitter is free to download and available for most devices. Hit the link below to download.

is this the same version as the BB beta zoner?
big bb May 19, 2011 at 10:13 am
Yes it is the same as the beta zone
brava27 May 19, 2011 at 10:18 am
No, it is not the same. 2.0.0.8 is beta zone. 2.0.0.11 is app world
datta72 May 19, 2011 at 10:14 am
I don't like it. The ability to quote a tweet from someone who is private is gone. Until they add that back, i'm not switching to it
bensonjunior May 19, 2011 at 12:24 pm
You can work around that by going to the tweet, BB button>Send To>Twitter
leilani_J May 20, 2011 at 7:14 am
Actually, it is still there. When you click the Retweet icon in the message, the pop up shows a button to either choose to "Quote Tweet" or "ReTweet". Very simple, IMO.
westex#WP May 19, 2011 at 10:16 am
Can't wait to give it a try. My current Twitter app, 1.1.021, is so crappy that I switched to Seesmic. Always freezing/crashing.
halasteve May 19, 2011 at 10:21 am
It's an Ok app, but I still hate the jumpiness or lag...I use TweetGenius.
I don't understand why RIM can't make the app look as fanciful as other Twitter apps out there...is it so difficult to make?
bighap May 19, 2011 at 10:21 am
I really wanted to like this but I gave up after a few days beta testing it. UberSocial is tops in my book. Much more customizable and feature filled.
SC457 May 19, 2011 at 10:58 am
Me too, the only thing I like about it is the push notifications. Otherwise ÜberSocial blows it away in everything else.
crystinonfire May 26, 2011 at 3:41 pm
not socialscope!
Ganayni94 May 19, 2011 at 10:25 am
That's great ! Waiting to grab it from App World ;) I like to keep myself updated ;) .. But Is there any news about the Official release of Facebook 2.0 ?
ElSteve9 May 19, 2011 at 11:48 am
I'm running the Facebook 2.0 beta, and did the one before it. They're distinctly better, but right now installing either screws up half the other apps you have installed. After I installed each of these betas, upon reboot I didn't have half of my apps anymore!
So...wait for them to solve that!
andicried76 May 19, 2011 at 3:29 pm
Was wondering the same about Facebook v2 release! But apparently it's safe to wait!!!!
vx1 May 19, 2011 at 10:44 am
nice .. good update tested the beta zone one liking it
boman06210 May 19, 2011 at 11:26 am
i almost hate when i see posts like this, because i go to look for the update and it's nowhere to be found, even after alt+RST and going to the website and trying from my laptop. ugh.
ip.amps May 19, 2011 at 11:57 am
just connect and sync ur phone to ur pc when u login to BB App world. go to twitter app and it will show the link UPGRADE to ver 2.0! i just upgrade mine!:)
boman06210 May 19, 2011 at 12:14 pm
ahhhh i guess logging in would help lol thnx
RyMac04 May 19, 2011 at 12:06 pm
I've been using the beta, and I'm unsure of where to send this bug but... when i go to search for a user or hash tags, it pulls up the numeric keyboard. I've tried switching to different style keyboards through the BB menu but no luck.
Any help here?
tprime May 19, 2011 at 12:05 pm
Why is Thole batting second?!
Should be Turner.
Lets go Mets!
hrphotoman May 19, 2011 at 12:17 pm
It's real slow after reboot. Maybe another one will do the trick. Definitely looks better though. Still like social scope the best for updating my status, it includes my facebook fan page too.

Wolfroid May 20, 2011 at 6:44 am
That is what I was looking for, because The App World isn't available here in ma "hood",;);)
Thanks for the Links man!
W1zz May 19, 2011 at 12:48 pm
No old style RT
No twitlonger or similar service
Step up to the standards of social scope and ubersocial otherwise I see no reason to download
jeffmik May 20, 2011 at 9:37 am
When you select retweet or the symbol it gives you the option to retweet or quote (edit) the message.
andicried76 May 19, 2011 at 12:54 pm
I wonder why they did not put the 'new tweet' feature right on top....:/
Cafeina May 19, 2011 at 3:50 pm
I wondered the same thing, at first. But I think the new design is much cleaner. You can see more of your stream. Also, you can compose a new tweet by hitting "C" while in any view.
enotar May 19, 2011 at 1:28 pm
Twitter 2.0 is not availlable and app world has 1.10
Undenied May 19, 2011 at 1:57 pm
I got the update announcement on my 8530, I had the 1.0.0.21 installed, tried to install via App World and while loading I can see "2.0.0.11" written on the screen but after it finished loading it went back to "1.0.0.21" so it wouldn't let me upgrade.
I tried rroyy's bit.ly link for the 0s5, got a "907 invalid COD" message at first but attempted to download again. I think it took, it asked me to reboot so you know how long that takes. Fingers crossed... it better not suck like the last one..
shabazosu May 19, 2011 at 2:22 pm
Yeah, I got the same error message on my 8900, let me know if it worked for you the second time because it still didn't for me.. a quick google search on '907 invalid cod' recommends that you need to first uninstall the application (Twitter in this case) before installing the upgrade, so I guess that's my next step.
*Update* Uninstalling twitter first then upgrading using the bit.ly link provided above worked for me.
Undenied May 19, 2011 at 2:57 pm
It did work for me the second try with bit.ly link, but I think I should have done like you and uninstalled the older version first. But either way it worked for both of us :) *high five!*
The issue I had with 1.0.0.21 was that it couldn't handle massive amounts of DMs from one user. I exchange tons of DMs with a friend overseas, there's literally hundreds of them and my 8530 just froze for a very long time I would sometimes need to pull the battery. I hope this version is better at handling many messages.
Phil DeLong May 19, 2011 at 2:39 pm
Some nice changes, but Uber is still the best by far
Undenied May 19, 2011 at 3:10 pm
Just like I expected, I still get an error message through Twitter when checking DMs: "uncaught exception net_rim_bb_twitter(222) is not responding; process terminated" Maybe I'll just try deleting old DMs... I don't know =\
DustBow May 19, 2011 at 5:03 pm
Does it hold your place in your timeline when you refresh? Uber will always be my choice until BB4T does this as well. Hate always being kicked back to the top...
Undenied May 19, 2011 at 10:17 pm
It still kicks you back on top. I think I'm willing to pay Uber for the full no-ads version than BlackBerry's Twitter app. It's still buggy, all I see is a difference in colour.
Oh well, good while it lasted..
malita May 19, 2011 at 5:06 pm
Previous icon with the same bird was wider, which made it better looking..
Gamesdmc3 May 19, 2011 at 8:06 pm
Cant waitto try it out
drakesaliasonline May 19, 2011 at 8:12 pm
I hope the icon isnt the "Twitter Bird" with the box around it that was in beta zone! Why cant we just have the Bird but a little bigger?
Undenied May 19, 2011 at 10:15 pm
It had no box around it, but I didn't notice any change in the icon, if it was smaller or bigger; looks the same as the 1.0.0.21 version.
saadqasim May 19, 2011 at 8:31 pm
Any word on support for people without BIS/BES? (for people with TCP/IP)
The last official version worked in our favor, but the beta I downloaded of 2.0.0.8 did not.
allengeorge May 20, 2011 at 10:14 am
You will be able to use the official version without a BIS connection. Hopefully that'll continue to be the case into the future...
lxhxxnxxx May 20, 2011 at 12:13 am
anyway i can set the time to refresh new tweets > 1hour?
greyhd May 20, 2011 at 12:32 am
App world still shows 1.0.0.21. I went directly here to download the latest and not wait for App World: www.blackberry.com/twitter on your phone.
leilani_J May 20, 2011 at 7:17 am
Or you can do it straight from your current Twitter version in Options with "Check for Update". (like I did) ;]
allengeorge May 20, 2011 at 10:15 am
Thanks! App World wasn't showing an update, but going to the link above gets you the latest version.
rgm#cb May 20, 2011 at 3:58 pm
Upgraded to Twitter 2.0 but it slowed my 9780 so I deleted it.
andicried76 May 21, 2011 at 3:33 pm
Does anyone know how to make smiley icons such as ☺ on Ubersocial? (I guess whoever uses Ubersocial knows what I am talking about.. this smiley can be found under 'symbols' menu! Thanks! I have seen Twitter app (for Blackberry) users inserting it on tweets but haven't found an app or similar to add them! THANKS!
kennyiceberry May 22, 2011 at 11:12 am
No major changes apart from aesthetic. It may have had a negative global effect - I've noticed browsing has been 'jumpy' this afternoon after downloading - I need to check that this isn't being caused by something else. In any case, this update does not seem in the least bit essential. The last iteration of version 1 was working just fine within its own limitations.
CamHHH May 22, 2011 at 11:59 am
For some reason, the images from my twitter feed on the new app wont load. Neither the thumbnails or when I click to view full-screen. I am on the Bell Social 40 plan that includes twitter in the package, but I don't have access to data other than the social apps (for example, I cant use my browser unless I am connected via WiFi, but FB, BBM, and twitter work fine without WiFi). Images used to load just fine on the previous version when not connected via WiFi. Anyone else having this problem?
cluez101 May 23, 2011 at 11:14 pm
hate the fact that i have to press a button to compose a tweet.....just always liked the option of being able to compose a tweet at the top. my 2cents
Jahdub03 May 25, 2011 at 9:45 pm
any way to get old twitter back?
