How to add an Outlook.com email address to your BlackBerry
Microsoft's Hotmail was once a widely used email service, but in recent years has been relegated to the same place of GeoCities, Angelfire and the like. Today, Hotmail was rebranded and relaunched as Outlook.com, and it just might give other email services a run for their money. The minimalist design is giving new life to the old Hotmail and could have some users picking it up full time.
If you are thinking of grabbing an Outlook.com email address - you don't have to worry because it will certainly work on your BlackBerry smartphone. Keep reading and we'll look at just how easy it is to add your new email address to your BlackBerry.
How to add an Outlook.com email address to your BlackBerry
- From the Messages app, press the Menu key and choose Options
- Select Email Account Management
- Click Add another email address
- Choose Other
- Enter your Outlook.com email address and password.
- Change your signature and sync settings as you see fit, then click Continue
That's it! You should receive an Activation Server message in your inbox and setup is complete. Now you can use your new Outlook.com email address from your BlackBerry.

Thank you BlackBerry NOC.

Done on my Bold. Not working so far on my PlayBook. Still not sure if I'll replace my Google Apps account with Outlook, but I managed to grab a good handle just in case.

On your playbook: Manually setting the Exchange Server to
snt-m.hotmail.com
instead of the default makes it work.
jvictor77 Aug 1, 2012 at 12:49 am
That did the trick for me - thanks!
jwarman Jul 31, 2012 at 1:11 pm
I read on Engadget that they will be adding Skype integration into Outlook.com. I wonder if this maybe the first possible way to actually get Skype on the Playbook. I am crossing my fingers on that.
adamschuetze Jul 31, 2012 at 1:14 pm
Does this sync calendar and contacts also?
OniPod Jul 31, 2012 at 5:26 pm
Yes it does.
batrad Jul 31, 2012 at 1:46 pm
done..
slowly moving my "contacts" to Outlook.com email address
will keep the hotmail.com address for junk mail /contest signups..
Mathrin Jul 31, 2012 at 1:49 pm
I think I'll start moving away from gmail now. I'm getting more and more frustrated with google services.
sk8er_tor Jul 31, 2012 at 3:20 pm
I agree. I'm getting frustrated with their disregard for customers' privacy.

I'm probably one of the last few still using a Hotmail email as my primary, but this is perfect for me. I just created and alias with my first.last@outlook.com to look more professional on resumes and other docs. And it nothing new to setup on my BlackBerry devices!
decypher44 Jul 31, 2012 at 2:32 pm
FYI - You can add an alias to your email address. I just found that out. So, I have my regular email address, then one with "first.last@outlook.com" for formal/professional use.
bigbmc26 Jul 31, 2012 at 3:56 pm
Yeop, that's exactly what I did.
decypher44 Jul 31, 2012 at 3:59 pm
OK, that was my "duh" moment of the day. I misread your post.
davidshashoua Aug 1, 2012 at 3:51 pm
How do you get the alias addresses to show up on the Blackberry? Only emails addressed to the anchor hotmail address show up as they always have. I set up 2 other alias (xyz@outlook.com) addresses but the emails don't come through on my Torch? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!
grreyes24 Jul 31, 2012 at 2:01 pm
thats funny... I was actually just over there grabbing a bunch of good handles. Tried to get BlackBerry@outlook.com but that wasn't available. I did get BlackBerry10@outlook.com though. Might look cool to use sometime.
mssca Jul 31, 2012 at 6:15 pm
I got a great email, lickme@outlook.com
:)
menaknow Jul 31, 2012 at 1:57 pm
Ironically I signed up for a hotmail email last night before this change.
I've just upgraded the hotmail account to this UI and love it!
Will now just have to move over my contacts and calendar from google, since I use skydrive and messenger. Plus hotmail allows EAS. Just hopefully that function still works.

Anybody know what the POP3 settings are for outlook.com? POP & SMTP servers? Never mind, I tried a few things and got it to work (Test at least, in Outlook 2010.)
maxknux Jul 31, 2012 at 6:46 pm
You should get the outlook hotmail connecter to get email in outlook.
scalemaster34 Jul 31, 2012 at 2:12 pm
What is funny is they didn't use a BlackBerry in the photo for an article titled "How to add an Outlook.com email address to your BlackBerry"
RIM should put a little BlackBerry on their browser....
decypher44 Jul 31, 2012 at 2:26 pm
Worked like a charm! Thanks!!!
wickednoize Jul 31, 2012 at 2:32 pm
Bam! Done....Thank you crackberry =)
cgk Jul 31, 2012 at 2:33 pm
It's not quite finished, if you scroll to the top for the dropdown menus, mail and people are the next style metro apps while skydrive and calender are still the old school ones - I guess they will complete the update in the next few days?
velociraptor89 Jul 31, 2012 at 2:35 pm
Outlook.com won't open on PB's stock browser so getting skype on PB's browser isn't happening?
Don't mess with raptors.
Dart83 Aug 2, 2012 at 1:51 pm
Having the same problem. It just won't open on the PB's Native Browser.
I tried with the Dolphin Browser in my PB and it did work. Although it kind of looks like a mobile version of the site, but still you have access to ALL your e-mails.
mrpenaflor Jul 31, 2012 at 3:08 pm
This new outlook email just messed my account. I lost my hotmail account because it changed my email address. now i need to mail my contacts that my email has been changed.
sk8er_tor Jul 31, 2012 at 3:22 pm
You're still able to receive email to your old email account. You probably didn't read the pop-up that comes up the first time you logged in.
mrpenaflor Jul 31, 2012 at 10:39 pm
yeah, I know I can still receive email from my old account. but the thing is it changed my email from username@hotmail.com to first.lastname@hotmail.com i cant even login using my old credentials. And that happened when i created a first.lastname@outlook.com account while my hotmail account is open on another tab. somehow the new outlook would link the two accounts cause i received an email that my email has been changed after i created the new outlook email.
texazzpete Jul 31, 2012 at 3:39 pm
As someone said, this may be just the perfect way to get skype video chats on the Playbook ;)
PS: Hotmail is still the world's most used email....surpassing Gmail and Yahoo mail in users. It may not be as big as it once was, but it's no Geocities :)
maxknux Jul 31, 2012 at 6:48 pm
I thought hotmail was 2nd and yahoo was first. maybe I am wrong.
NFLPLAYBOOK Jul 31, 2012 at 4:13 pm
Thanks I finally got a decent addresss name.
BruvvaPete Jul 31, 2012 at 4:35 pm
Hotmail got to be straight up garbage. They've been hacked so much it's not funny. I've never seen as much spam coming out of anything except for Yahoo.
nickolas16 Jul 31, 2012 at 5:51 pm
Outlook.com does not support Blackberry!!!??? (as most of the webmails lately)
nickolas16 Jul 31, 2012 at 6:31 pm
Does not open on Playbook browser!!! WTF???
stevensonjohnpaul Jul 31, 2012 at 7:00 pm
new interface looks great on the mail page, but click on calendar and it links back to the hotmail calendar, which sucks....
lasm2000 Jul 31, 2012 at 10:40 pm
Similar for the documents on skydrive. I guess all of those should get an update soon.
w0lfgang Jul 31, 2012 at 9:08 pm
Yeah, I can't get it to open in the PB browser either
lasm2000 Jul 31, 2012 at 9:29 pm
As others have mentioned it doesn't works in the pb browser... This means that for practical purposes I have lost access to that account in my tablet since I wouldn't like to add it to the messages app unless it is possible to add the mail account but not the contacts (which would create an unholy mess in my now pristine contact list). Is it possible to use the pb messages app for mail and have contacts not synched?
mrpenaflor Jul 31, 2012 at 10:45 pm
When you add a new account it would ask you if you want to sync contacts. you can just turn it off.
scmcc16 Jul 31, 2012 at 10:45 pm
Anyone know if this two way syncs?? I got a Bold 9700 and and will switch gladly if it does.
Android Market for QNX Jul 31, 2012 at 11:06 pm
Yes! I just signed up for a new Microsoft account. I used to use hotmail but migrated to Yahoo and then Gmail. This new update to Outlook is making me give it another look, just synced all my accounts and files to the new Outlook, very exciting!
rohit.sangtani Aug 1, 2012 at 2:45 am
Outlook.com has been built fresh from the ground up, not unlike BlackBerry 10. It is not a rebrand & relaunch of hotmail. In fact, Microsoft is trying hard to distance this service from that name since its notorious for annoying ads all around the inbox. Just read this in multiple places.
furot Aug 1, 2012 at 3:33 am
For PB configuration...try bay-m.hotmail.com as serveur adress
Furot
From Playbook 64gb
flashop Aug 1, 2012 at 6:13 am
Calendar sync works on the PlayBook but not on my BlackBerry 9930. I need to the calendar to sync before I can make the switch completely.
aabousei Aug 1, 2012 at 7:38 am
Set up on my bold, it send emails with no problem but it is not receiving any emails!
Any ideas?
aabousei Aug 1, 2012 at 7:42 am
When I set up the account on my BB it gave me the option to sync contacts but did not give me a tick box to sync calendar .. am I missing something?
Snowman888 Aug 1, 2012 at 11:39 am
Is there a reason why I can't delete emails on my BB and it reflect on the outlook server?
scmcc16 Aug 1, 2012 at 4:27 pm
Ya, that's what I was wondering about with 2 way syncing.
dogth99 Aug 2, 2012 at 11:54 pm
I added outlook mail success. But mail is delayed on my BB.
Dan Anghelescu Mar 21, 2013 at 4:51 pm
For me it is not working correctly in desktop version of Outlook. When I read an email on desktop version of outlook, the email looks read on web version BUT not read on BB. Very, very annoying.
