Foursquare updated to version 5.0 for BlackBerry smartphones
Brand new design, fixes and more
Attention foursquare users! My BlackBerry just told me that foursquare was offering an update and upon checking App Word this isn't any old update, this one has some cool new stuff. Just like the updates that came to iOS and Andriod a few weeks back, this one is packed with fun features. The biggest change is a brand new tweaked user interface -- the design has had an overhaul to make using the app more enjoyable.
In addition, App World is also listing the following features as updated...
- Improved friends tab that lets you quickly see whats going on.
- Updated explore screen to help you discover great place.
- Improvements in GPS and other tweaks along the way.
Let us know what you think of the redesign in the comments.

I got this last night. Such a different experience now with Foursquare. I love the new look
TnTimberry Jun 26, 2012 at 9:28 am
In App world, even after I refresh it still says version 3. something same at Foursquare web sight and on crackberry link it doesn't show version 5 available
Rootbrian Jun 26, 2012 at 2:37 pm
Alt-RST
Use it. Refreshes appworld.

It now shows v5.0 on my end on the URL. They are still pushing it out to all of appworld. Personally for me I don't normally get AppWorld alerts on updates on my phone till about 1PMish.

Scan your link and took me to the same version that I already have 3.9.1 in BB App World
Scan the QR Code with the same result
Is there any other way to get the update version???
Using BB Torch 9800

You could force your BlackBerry to reset all the apps in appworld which would cause appworld to check for updates for all apps. However that will only work if you get a server that 5.0 has been pushed to.

1. Download the device software from your carrier, or another carrier, or from any of the Crackberry blog entries for the latest of 7.1.0.4xx or 7.1.0.523, install it, search for the vendor.xml files, remove them.
2. Backup your device selectively using desktop manager and EXCLUDE EVERYTHING, except: Contacts (address book), Calendar (if you use it), Memopad (if you use it), Icon Arrangement, Theme Settings, Options, BIS data, Servicebooks (or exclude, they'll be resent anyways), browser options, browser bookmarks.
3. Update the device software via apploader and select the option to not back anything up.
4. Once the device software is reloaded, launch desktop manager and restore the backup you've just made, presto! It'll run as smooth as the day you just got it.

So far the only issue I’ve seen is that with my Storm2, when it upright (portrait) when it’s looking for nearby venues to check-in, the multi-tap keyboard appears rather than the qwerty keyboard which is a bit annoying.

MaxPayne79 Jun 26, 2012 at 12:42 pm
can u still comment on ur checkins? cause the gf has a shmiphone and she can't. i don't really see a point in the app if u can't.
wfubball Jun 26, 2012 at 4:04 pm
you can still comment on checkins in the iphone version as well as the blackberry version. Its even easier now!
MaxPayne79 Jun 26, 2012 at 4:22 pm
ok. thanx! :)
davehong Jun 26, 2012 at 12:51 pm
Installed, and it works fine for me!
I like the new look, but I dislike how I can't just show my friends who are nearby... I don't really care if my friend at Wisconsin just checked into a Starbucks.
(Well, I care, but not necessarily all the time.)
wfubball Jun 26, 2012 at 12:53 pm
Check out the friends nearby section of the explore tab
flori72 Jun 27, 2012 at 6:30 am
I can't find the friend section in the explore tab… can you help?
hrabacik Jun 26, 2012 at 1:43 pm
Waaaau...I am lovin' it !!!
MaxPayne79 Jun 26, 2012 at 4:47 pm
yeah this doesn't work for me. give me some kind of a missing or invalid token error bullish*t. now it won't let me log in at all. crap! back to 3.9.1 :(
shboy Jun 26, 2012 at 6:26 pm
not your fault. http://status.foursquare.com/
OniPod Jun 26, 2012 at 7:11 pm
Great update!!
Gray Jun 26, 2012 at 8:21 pm
I downloaded it and attempted to log on but couldn't. Tried many times. Finally I went to the web site and it was down!
Sorry about that FourSquare, didn 't mean to crush your site with the power of Blackberry.
vpol Jun 27, 2012 at 12:14 am
Works but i can't comment on any language other than english, keyboard input doesn't switch.
flori72 Jun 27, 2012 at 6:33 am
I'm not to keen on the grey background, I think it makes the app look very old. But that's just my taste.
Can anyone tell me if it is normal to see myself in my friend list? I see for instance 2 friends in a place but one of them is me… kind of silly.
ThaMunsta Jun 27, 2012 at 11:14 am
Oh man this was a much needed update in terms of performance. Great work by their dev team on this. I will probably start using it way more now
eliteBBerry Jun 28, 2012 at 7:33 am
Constant error, so far can not be updated in the App World even cache cleaning (alt + RST) and also directly on the site http://foursquare.com/download continues the previous version =(

Just killed my 9650. On top of that the BlackBerry Mac Desktop Software states I need to update in order to re-install BB6 and the update is not working at all. I've been trying Safe Mode continuously using a mini spring clamp because my fingers got tired. Once again my BlackBerry is f*#%ed with no way to recover. I don't have a Windows machine to try any of the other restore tricks. I seriously want to smash my 9650 into a million little pieces.
Update: took over 3 hours to recover my 9650. Now I still have the process of re-installing all the apps that I was using previously.
