Facebook for BlackBerry v2.0 Now Available
Plenty of Facebook users have been waiting for it, and we had a pretty good feeling it was coming today. That said; Facebook v2.0 is now available for download for both BlackBerry smartphones and the BlackBerry PlayBook.
As noted from RIM:
We are pleased to announce the availability of Facebook for BlackBerry PlayBook 2.0 today in BlackBerry App World. Facebook for BlackBerry PlayBook was the first optimized tablet Facebook application that offers users a highly engaging experience with access to popular features such as Facebook chat, video uploading and Places.
New features include:
- Facebook Places – Users choose to share where they are, what they are doing and who they are with – with Facebook friends. Get directions to and from a Facebook Places by clicking on the map image, which will seamlessly launch the Bing! Maps on the BlackBerry Playbook.
- Facebook Events - View events and birthdays and receive notifications of new invitations. View event details like the time, place, guest list and more. Users can even RSVP and write on the event’s Wall.
- View ‘Likes’ - See the names of the friends that ‘liked’ a user’s post. Users will also be able to tap their friends’ names to launch directly to their profiles.
- Privacy control on status updates - Control who can see each update users share. Simply click the lock icon in the lower-right corner of the status publisher to select who to make the status update visible to before posting it.

Open App World and press Alt + R + S + T.
It will close App World and try again, is this dosen´t work give the servers time to load.

Comfirmed! Been playing with it for about 30 minutes and it looks great, specially for us in Portugal who haven't beta zone access and been screwed with 1.9, and all it's bugs, for the last few months! 2.0 UI looks sharp and very pleasant, the notifications are finally back and found no bugs nor glitches :D

I got it from app world... didn't receive the upgrade notification but logged in and checked for Facebook in the Top Free apps and there it was... 2.0.37 ready for upgrade :D

I have been running the Beta Zone version for awhile, and I have never been notified on a "like". Only on replies and when a FB friend posts a new status.

FWIW, I was running the Beta for a while, and the "like" notifications only started on the very latest rev, 2.0.0.28. Not sure what version you were on.

The Like Notifications aren't Push as the ones on the Comments, the Like Notification will update every hour or so, this was the explanation during the Beta's, and they DO work for Me, hope this helps.

I had the same problem. Don't know if its a common issue. Just go to "All" on your playbook and hold the old facebook version and delete it manually!

downloading... yes delete your old one go to bbappworld and hold down alt +R+T+S release wait a moment or 2 and it will go back out to your home screen. go back in to appworld and search for facebook..click on it when it opened it was 2.0 Oh gota go its downloaded....hehee

I checked my Playbook's AppWorld, and sure enough a new version of Facebook was available. However, I ran the update, which seemed to work. However, rather than uninstalling the old one, it adds the new one with a separate (but identical) Facebook icon. So, I have two versions running on my Playbook. So, I go into AppWorld, and it shows two Facebook for Playbook loaded on my Playbook. They both show as version 2.0 (3MB). So, I deleted one. Sure enough, the new one disappears leaving the old one. I go back into AppWorld, and it shows a single Facebook for Playbook with available update. I run it again, and same thing. I don't understand why a simple install should be so troublesome on my Playbook. Its the first install that really has taken a bad turn for me. How do I NOT have to run two versions of Facebook on my Playbook. Any help in this regard is appreciated. I really don't like having two versions running, and taking up valuable space on my Playbook. Thanks.

The same thing happened to me. Just start up the facebook icon at the very bottom of your "All" screen. You'll know it's the new one because it will have Media, Status, and Check In on it. Then, expand your "All" tab, and click and hold on the facebook icon that you did not click on to get the new version of facebook running. Click the trash can to delete it. Problem solved.

If you are playbook, check further down for a duplicate Facebook icon. Open it up, as it is likely newer version. Mine didn't remove the old version, see my earlier post. Still wondering how to get the old one to delete. Not as simple as it may seem to do that. Tried twice and failed. Good luck and hope this helps.

Not happy right now. I got the notification that 2.0 was available, but when i tap it it takes me to appworld and only 1.4 is available. I tried deleting my old version, but it still only shows 1.4. So I reinstalled 1.4 and it's some half finished buggy version of 1.4. So now I can't upgrade and my current version is crap. Nice.

For the PB version, delete all Facebook icons. Check all the tabs. Then go to the uninstalled in Appworld My World, it should show 2.0. That's how I installed mine.

I used the beta version and tonight upgraded to version 37 and in both I was unable to get "Places" to work. When I click "check in" I get a screen that says "Unable to retrieve your location. Please try again later".............all other features work except for this. Any thoughts on how to fix this would be much appreciated.

I'm having the same problem. I was on the beta version, but deleted it due to Places not working. Now that I've updated to the new 2.0 version, I'm finding the same problem. I've checked and made sure that the "share my location with Facebook" option is checked, which it is.

Anyone else notice that when you receive a notification, it brings you a screen that tells you about the notification, but doesn't actually show it. One of my friends commented on something on my wall, and the notification said "Chris commented on your link", but didn't say what he said, which one it was, or even provide a way to get there.

Couldn't be any simpler on the PB. Press on the grid button on the top left corner of the app and then select Events. I don't think the full Events is available on the phones yet - I think you can only receive events and indicate whether you're attending or not. It would come in under Notifications.

For some reason, the 2.0 installation added a new icon instead of using or replacing the old 1.04 icon. I didn't realize this until I scrolled to the last icon screen.
Deleted the 1.04 icon and am using the 2.0 icon now (they look exactly the same, can only tell by viewing the version in bottom right once the app launches) -- all is well!

I can't get find mine at all. I downloaded it and i went through the reboot process. It's nowhere to be found. Went to app world to see if i could run it from there and there's no run option Wtf? Did I screw something up down the line somewhere?

Try to log into the mobile version of facebook on your internet browser then you will see an option that will ask you if you want to download facebook for you blackberry..that's how I got mine

Am I going crazy but I downloaded FB for PB V2.0 yesterday I didn't have time to fiddle with it until today. When I did I noticed that "PLACES and EVENT" are not showing up. I restarted thinking maybe they would after the fact and still nothing. Also checked the current version on my PB and it shows V2.0........WHAT GIVES? By the way LUV my BB's!!!!!

I got the upgrade but now I have two facebook apps. When I run them and check the versions, they are different - 1.x and 2.x. But when looking at my World they both show to be version 2.x.

Installed on 9700 on AT&T and i cannot check into places. Getting an error unable to retrieve your location. Please try again later. Have option share my location turned on. Other apps with ģps works just fine. WTH????

The newest version for the smart phones still doesn't have events accessible from the navigation grid nor does it have an improved layout (i.e., grid) for photos. These were two of the more requested features during the beta testing. Maybe they will decide to incorporate these in the future given that they now exist on the Facebook application for Playbook.

Too many people r saying "how do I get my old version back?" Saying that it freezes their bb's and such. So I'm sticking with what works for me. Especially seeing bad reviews for my bb curve 8520. Just my 2cents.

I downloaded the new facebook app on my blackberry tour. The feed keeps freezing and not refreshing. I reinstalled and it worked short-term but started freezing again. Any ideas?
