BlackBerry and Mercedes AMG Petronas will hit up the home turf this weekend as Formula 1 takes to Montreal. Sunday's race on Gilles Villeneuve Circuit will see Monaco winner Nico Rosberg and teammate Lewis Hamilton hit the road again for what looks to be some great action.
I'm still a newbie when it comes to F1, but I'm sad that I won't be able to head to the race this weekend. I thought about it a bit, but apparently my daughter's birthday party is a bit more important.
Regardless, I'll be watching the race live at 2p ET during the party to cheer on Team BlackBerry and hope for another victory. I'm told this is one of the best races of the season so I can't wait to see how it all pans out.
Continue Reading →If you couldn't tell, I'm all about Formula 1 now. Ever since BlackBerry teamed up with Mercedes AMG Petronas I've been following along and even got to experience a victory watching my first race as an F1 fan. I've learned a lot in the last few weeks and have been reading up quite a bit so I can try to be a well informed F1 fan.
Continue Reading →First off - sorry if we spoiled the qualifying for anyone that hadn't yet had the chance to watch. Going forward we'll wait a good 24 hours after the action to put any posts up.
That being said - GO TEAM BLACKBERRY! Imagine how excited I was to see the BlackBerry / Mercedes TEAM AMG Petronas take first in the Monaco Grand Prix yesterday. My first race experience was awesome and I'm not quite sure how I lived without Formula 1 until now.
Continue Reading →I woke up extra early today to get prepped for the final Monaco Grand Prix qualifier. It is my first "official" race weekend since becoming an Formula 1 fan (thanks to BlackBerry) so needless to say I was totally pumped to show my support.
As things got up and running, Mercedes AMG Petronas teammates Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton took charge and rocked out the qualifier.
Continue Reading →The BlackBerry-sponsored Mercedes AMG Petronas team will be hitting the pavement in Monte Carlo for the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday. I've never been a big fan of F1 before, but of course now that BlackBerry is sponsoring a team, how could I avoid it?
Also, the Monaco Grand Prix will be the first time an F1 race is broadcast live on network TV here in the US (NBC).
Continue Reading →The #TEAMBLACKBERRY hash tag was given a little extra meaning this morning with the announcement that BlackBerry is now the official technology partner and sponsor of Mercedes 2013 Formula 1 car. BlackBerry officially involved with a Formula 1 team is something I've been wanting to see for literally years. With BlackBerry 10 hitting the market globally, and Formula 1's reputation for engineering, innovation and speed, it's the perfect venue with which to associate the BlackBerry brand.
For the all the details on the new BlackBerry / Mercedes partnership, hit up the press release we posted earlier. And to feast your eyes on all the BlackBerry goodness that will grace the Mercedes F1 W04, the drivers, crew and even the timing board, scroll down.
I'm especially loving the driver's uniform. If anybody out there is reading this and knows how to get their hands on one, send it down to CrackBerry HQ. I'll proudly wear it all day while writing. I bet wearing it would make me type up articles like this even faster.

The Official F1 2012 Live Timing and Track Positioning app has now arrived for the BlackBerry PlayBook and is available for download from BlackBerry App World. Rather than just a port of the Android or iOS version, BlackBerry PlayBook owners will be getting a native application and it's packed with features:
- Real Time Track Positioning - Displayed on our dynamic and interactive map. You can see the position of every F1 driver on the track at the same time. See the gaps and pit stops as never before!
- Follow Your Favourite Forumla 1 Drivers - Selecting a driver switches the camera to follow that selected driver around the race track. Watch as they battle for position!
- Live Timing Data - Timing data is streamed direct from Formula One Management's technical centre at the race track to the palm of your hand. With multiple timing screens including sectors, gaps and speeds. Watch the sessions like the engineers on the pitwall!
- Live Leaderboards - Combined with live timing data, scrollable leaderboards display a wealth of data.
- Download Race Packs - Download race packs after the event to watch the sessions again and again. Perfect for tape delayed broadcast!
- Live Text Commentary - Lap by lap live text commentary keeps you updated while the action unfolds.
- Event Counter & Notifications - A new enhanced Infobase with an event countdown that shows the time to the next session and informs when a session is live. Optional notifications alert you when sessions are approaching.
- Keep Up To Date - Easily access a wealth of information with latest drivers and teams stats, race information, standings and latest results.
- Complete Formula One Access - Experience each and every Formula One Grand Prix session via the live timing & track positioning feed in the palm of your hand.
Just like the BlackBerry version, it is a paid app that will set you back $20 but it's a must-have for fans looking to get the most Formula 1 content available on the go. Need to see more before you jump in? Jump below to have a look at some more screenshots from the app on the PlayBook. Now all we need is that Ferrari BlackBerry PlayBook.

Own a BlackBerry PlayBook and Love Formula 1? If so you'll be happy to know an F1 Live app recently popped up in App World.
Continue Reading →This isn't even a rumor because I just made it up. It's Friday afternoon, and I just came across the greatest commercial ever to be made (just released this week) and needed a corresponding story so I had a reason to put it on the site.
Below is the Shell/Ferrari commercial that celebrates their 60 year relationship together. They shot the commercial in some of the greatest cities in the world - Rome, Monaco, New York, Hong Kong, Rio, and Sydney and is rumored to be the MOST EXPENSIVE commerical ever created. 2 minutes of pure joy - watch it!
But seriously, RIM really should consider sponsoring Formula 1. Their brand is already established in North America and there is no other sport/sponsorship venue that embraces international brands and has a worldwide following as big as Formula 1. Afterall, it is Research in MOTION, and the fit with Formula 1 technology and speed makes sense.
As for which team they should sponsor, I would of course rather see their logo on a RED car (a.k.a. Ferrari) despite their lead product being named BLACKBerry.
