BlackBerry: The Next Great Entrepreneurs

As in previous BlackBerry Jam keynotes, Alec Saunders, Christopher Smith and Marty Mallick are back, but this time they aren't singing. Previously known for their hits "The Waiting", "Keep On Loving You", and "At Last", this year the guys did something a little different and put together a parody of a reality TV competition. If you aren't in Orlando right now, or if you missed the BlackBerry Jam keynote, this is your chance to see just what the Developer Relations team at BlackBerry has cooked up for your enjoyment.

CrackBerry Live: Hookflash brings open-source cross-platform video chat to BlackBerry 10

One company we bumped into at BlackBerry Live 2013 was Hookflash. Using their OpenPeer SDK, they've managed to get video chat working between BlackBerry 10 and iOS in relatively little time.

Given it's still in a rough beta state, and we've seen video chat solutions on BlackBerry 10 before, what's really cool here is that the wholething is open-source. This opens the doors wide open to developers that have their own machinations in mind. For example, oen feature they see as coming down the line with their client is the ability to record video chats. As is, it's pretty cool to have another video chat option between iOS and BlackBerry 10, and no doubt it will be looking much better once it exits beta.

There were a lot of official announcements made today at BlackBerry Live 2013, but here is an unofficial one for you. There is a new Instagram .bar file floating around that is a newer version than the last working one, that actually works quite a bit better than the last one. This leaked version seems to fix that annoying Facebook work around we had to use to get the last one to sign in, so no more of that. Also, as this is a newer version, there is at least one of the new filters (Willow) and it's running a bit faster than before, from my observation.

CrackBerry Live Podcast: BlackBerry Live 2013 Tuesday Edition

The first official day of BlackBerry Live 2013 (and our second in Orlando) kicked off with a bang - a big general session ripe with announcements. A new device, new apps, new initiatives, and a reinvigorated attitude from BlackBerry. Kevin, Adam, Bla1ze and Simon run through all of the news while trying to stay on topic, not go obnoxiously long and thereby irritate our insanely patient producer, John Pozadzides.

CrackBerry Live: Interview with the inventor of BBM, Gary Klassen!

On the day when BlackBerry announced that BBM is going cross platform to support both iOS and Android, we had the lucky opportunity to sit down with Gary Klassen.

If you're not familiar with Gary Klassen, you should read this article we posted back in 2011, where we gave Gary the CrackBerry salute for being the Inventor of BlackBerry Messenger. That's right, Gary literally wrote version 1.0 of BBM. We owe a lot to him! Then be sure to hit up the video above as we discuss today's BBM news with Gary.

Endomondo is ideal for running, cycling, walking and any other distance-based activity. You can head on over and download it from the link below.

BlackBerry Jam heading to Hong Kong and Barcelona!

BlackBerry Live is in full swing in Orlando, but looking to the future BlackBerry has announced the next two stops on the BlackBerry Jam calendar for BlackBerry Jam Asia and BlackBerry Jam Europe. For those of you who are regulars to either conference, the venues have been changed up for the next conferences.

BlackBerry Jam Asia will take place this coming September 26 and 27 in beautiful Hong Kong, moving on from the 2012 venue of Bangkok, Thailand. Songza going native for BlackBerry 10

Songza going native for BlackBerry 10

One of the most popular streaming music services out there is Songza. As most folks know, their app in BlackBerry World right now is an Android port. That said though, it won't be for long. During the BlackBerry Jam keynote today, Eric Davich, from Songza took the stage to let everyone know they'd be making the switch to native for several reasons. BlackBerry users that make use of Songza are extremely engaging, Songza wants to leverage the power of BlackBerry Messenger and tap into the access that BlackBerry offers through NFC. And finally, demand. Songza has heard BlackBerry customers loud and clear -- they want a native solution. As of now, their isn't any expected launch date for a native Songza release but just knowing its in the works should be enough to hold folks over.

BlackBerry and Flurry announce Flurry Analytics for BlackBerry 10

For developers, having insight as to how people use their apps is essential. It allows developers to better understand their customers, where they're coming from and how they're engaging. To offer BlackBerry developers greater tools, BlackBerry has now teamed up with Flurry Analytics and the Flurry Analytics dashboard services will be available to BlackBerry 10 developers. Those interested in integrating Flurry into their app can sign up for more information via the Flurry website or head on over to the BlackBerry Github repo to download the API sample apps.

BlackBerry Q5 photo gallery

BlackBerry Q5 photo gallery

We've had the quick video tour of the Q5 at BlackBerry Live 2013, but let's take a closer look in this photo gallery. We've got shots of the white, black, and red version, but unfortunately the pink one was locked away under glass for the time being.

Like I said in my original hands-on, the Q5 has a very glossy finish, but that's perfect to show off the eye-popping paint jobs. The keyboard sits very low on the device, and it's very easy to handle between the gently curved rear and slim profile.

How do you think this Q5 looks? Are the colors a big attraction, or do you put function over form?
