Loaded iOS 7 on my iPhone 5 - A few small observations and comparisons to BlackBerry 10

By now anyone who has internet access is aware Apple announced and showed off iOS 7 at WWDC in San Francisco. Even my mother was asking me questions about it and whether or not I had tuned into the event. Honestly, it's a bit weird to have so much conversation surrounding it here on CrackBerry but a lot of folks in the forums are discussing it and keep comparing it to the various other platforms out there, so it's clearly a hot topic even among BlackBerry users.

One thread that caught my attention was posted by donnation, just giving his general impressions of the beta version he installed onto his iPhone 5 and doing a little comparison to BlackBerry 10. Of course, he took some flack for posting his thoughts on it but that's OK.  It's a pretty insightful thread for folks who may not have access to iOS 7, as it's only available through the Apple Developer Program.

Have you got the skills to conquer Dart Wheel for BlackBerry 10

Dart Wheel for BlackBerry 10 is a real simple game, yet somewhat very satisfying. The basic concept is that you have either a skinny or a not so skinny guy on a wheel that spins around. He is surrounded by targets and you must throw darts at them without hitting the man. The best bit though is that the game is free so go and give it a go.

BlackBerry Messenger 10.2.0.12 with BBM Channels leaked

For the past little while now there have been bits and pieces of BlackBerry OS 10.2 turning up in the CrackBerry Forums for those of you out there who are adventurous and wish to try things out. Previously we saw BlackBerry Maps updates, Camera updates and Facebook updates. Now BlackBerry Messenger 10.2.0.12 has turned up and brings along with it BBM Channels without the need to install it separately. Though, I'm not sure if that's much of an advantage, given you need to sideload this file anyhow.

Apple’s iOS7 is a clear reminder that BlackBerry must keep moving.

When I watched the unveiling of iOS7 in yesterday’s live stream of Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference I couldn’t help but notice that some of the new gestures seemed to be strikingly similar to those in BlackBerry 10. It’s easy to make a case that Apple’s latest mobile OS heavily borrows from the best of BlackBerry.

But none of that matters. The average iPhone customer doesn’t read enthusiast blogs on the topic, and probably doesn’t care if a feature is stolen from another platform. The simple truth is that everyone is going to copy useful features when it makes sense to do so. When Facebook announced “chat heads” it seemed to me that BlackBerry should borrow the idea and implement it in BBM

theScore for BlackBerry 10 adds push alerts and social sharing options

One of my big gripes with theScore for BlackBerry 10 was the lack of push alerts for my teams. On previous devices, I loved getting game alerts for news, scores and players. On BlackBerry 10 that wasn't an option however which totally sucked.

Thankfully theScore has been updated today to include push alerts and additional social options.

Apple swipes a thing or two from BlackBerry

Apple swipes a thing or two from BlackBerry

Apple today in its WWDC keynote address unveiled its most magical, its most revolutionary -- and its most thieving version of iOS yet. It's a pretty big overhaul that includes a new look, new icons and some familiar new features.

And we couldn't help but notice just how similar some of those features are to what we've already seen on current BlackBerry devices.

Over the years we have seen everybody borrow a little here and there from the competition. Big features from one platform are bound to show up on another and that's just the way it is. But there were a few noticeable things in the upcoming version of iOS that look very similar to some features of BlackBerry 10 and even the BlackBerry PlayBook (oh and Windows Phone too!)

If you are into puzzle games you will love LookeBox for BlackBerry 10

Do like puzzle games? If so, LookeBox is a must try game for you. Luckily there is a free version which will give you a good taster of what the game is all about. I must admit that I'm not very good when it comes to puzzle games but that's just due to me being impatient. However, this game sucked me in and although it can be frustrating at first - once you get the hang of things it's a real joy to play. And the other piece of good news is that it is available for both the BlackBerry Z10 and Q10!

Verizon BlackBerry Q10 Unboxing

Verizon BlackBerry Q10 Unboxing

After a long wait for US users, Verizon has released the BlackBerry Q10 and we've scoped out the goods. There isn't anything left in the dark when it comes to the Q10 for the most part, but we always like to dive into new carrier devices just for fun.

The first thing you'll notice is that the Verizon BlackBerry Q10 box is a simple black all around - no purple Q10 logo like we've seen on devices from other carriers.

T-Mobile rolling out BlackBerry 10.1 to BlackBerry Z10 owners

For the past few weeks now, we've been hearing that the T-Mobile 10.1 update was approved for the BlackBerry Z10 and could start rolling out at any minute. We waited and we waited and now finally, after a few false alarms, it's looking as though it has begun its roll out. Appearing as software version 10.1.0.2006, the update is coming in at around 347MB over the air. Keep in mind, if you're running a leaked OS that is higher than this version, the update will not show as available for you.
