BlackBerry World for BB10 has been updated a little bit with a new user interface in the category section. It used to be that apps were show in a straight list with hidden filters and sorting options beyond the top, but now you get a bit of a landing page first, and then expand to the other sections in the old format as necessary. It's very similar to the music app's layout.Continue Reading →
This week our Talk Mobile discussion is all about mobile apps, and what better place for us to start than with BlackBerry World?
Since April 1, 2009, BlackBerry World (or BlackBerry App World as it was then) has been dishing up applications to BlackBerry users across the globe. We've seen more than a few incarnations of BlackBerry World over the years, most recently with BlackBerry 10. In the past users were only able to download apps and games through the BlackBerry World store but now, BB World integrates both a video store and music store making for a one-stop shopping experience on BlackBerry.
While BB World certainly does a great job at listing top apps, trending items, top movies and albums - there are still some things that could be improved to make it even better. The content grows bigger and bigger every day, making it harder and harder to find the really great apps. To aid in the search there are a few improvements we'd like to see to help make the BlackBerry World experience the best it can be.Continue Reading →

BlackBerry 10 launched just a few weeks ago with over 70,000 apps available in BlackBerry World, and today BlackBerry has announced that they have topped the 100,000 app mark. That means they've added an additional 30,000 apps in just seven weeks - pretty amazing if you ask me.
With multiple port-a-thons and a huge developer base, BlackBerry has done a great job getting BlackBerry World stocked up for BlackBerry 10. There are plenty more big name apps on the way, and with the US release just a few hours away, new apps like OpenTable and Amazon Kindle will be a welcome sight for new users.

Last week we saw that BlackBerry App World get rebranded BlackBerry World. We've known that this change was coming and with the launch of BlackBerry 10 this week, it seemed the best time to carry out the rebranding. The change in name was to go with the new direction the store is taking as now it will not just be apps that you can download. We'll be seeing music, movies and TV shows available and BlackBerry has promised an extensive catalogue of these.
Initially, the movie rental will be available to those in the U.S., U.K. and Canada. What's available for rent would be dependent on the region. It should be noted that this will only be available in BlackBerry World for BlackBerry 10 devices to start with. We should hopefully see the change come to the PlayBook and other devices soon. Read on for the full press release.Continue Reading →
