Verizon is once again offering an additional 2GB of data per line when adding or upgrading a device to an XL or larger data bucket. In order to get the free data, which is good for the lifetime of your account, you need to be on Verizon's XL or XXL data buckets. The XL plan comes with 12GB of shareable data, while the XXL bumps it up to 18GB. For each line that you add, or upgrade the hardware on, you can receive an additional 2GB of data on either of these plans.

BlackBerry said to be cutting 35% of Waterloo workforce

Update - Rather than letting folks wonder about the number of employees laid off, BlackBerry has now stated "approximately 200 employees have been impacted in Canada and Florida."

BlackBerry has now confirmed a new round of layoffs has impacted a small number of employees in Waterloo and Sunrise, Florida. In a statement issued by BlackBerry, the exact number of employees impacted by the layoffs was not given but notes this is the continuation of the company turnaround plan.

T-Mobile is offering fourth line free again

T-Mobile has brought back its popular "fourth line free promotion" with Family Match, and this time around the carrier is offering customers the choice between 10GB per line or unlimited data. Previously, the carrier ran a limited-time promotion that scored you four lines with 10GB each for $120, and more recently had only been offering family plans with 6GB of data each. Now, the carrier has brought back the 10GB option, as well as introduced a new unlimited offering for the promotion.

BlackBerry announces AtHoc data center in Canada

BlackBerry has announced a new secure data center in Canada that will allow support for global customers who want to take advantage of its AtHoc services. With the new cloud offerings, BlackBerry will be able to address data residency requirements for global customers who want to use its services for networked crisis communications.

BlackBerry Priv Feb security update now available

Here is the list of what all was patched in this release. In total, there were six CVE's addressed in this update.

The BlackBerry Priv is now receiving its February security patch. At this time, it is not clear exactly what has been patched or changed with this build, though we expect Google to reveal details about the update shortly. BlackBerry has done an excellent job so far in pushing timely security patches to the Priv.

You can now use the 'thumbs up' in Google Play app

If you've wanted a way to show someone that their review of a particular app helped you, you'll be happy to see that you can now 'thumbs up' a review from the Google Play app. That's right, if you come across a review that you find worthy of being thanked, or liked, or acknowledged positively in some fashion, you can now do so right from your phone. To find helpful reviews, you can sort them by most helpful first, newest first or have the highest rated show up first. Previously, you were only able to use the button on the web, so it's great to see that make its way to the mobile app.

Verizon spent $70 million to triple Bay Area LTE capacity ahead of the Super Bowl

Verizon wants to make sure that all of its customers who are headed to the Super Bowl have full coverage, so the carrier has more than tripled its 4G LTE network capacity in the Bay Area. The carrier spent $70 million in what it calls a "long-term investment" to boost network performance from San Francisco to Santa Clara. With the additional capacity, Verizon will be able to deliver a more reliable connection, even when the area is overly saturated with users.

These upgrades have been in the works for two years: Verizon has built 16 new area cell sites improving network performance at more than 10 major area venues, three major airports, and several hotels.

New BES12 integrations make the platform more robust

BlackBerry has integrated WatchDox and Good, two of its recent acquisitions, into BES12 in a new Unified Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) platform. This announcement comes along with the company's release of a new suite of mobile apps under the Good Secure EMM branding.

While Netflix works on licensing agreements, it will begin preventing customers from using proxies and unblockers to access more content. This move may not be a popular one from the company, as people obviously will want access to as much content as possible, but it is something Netflix says is necessary for its business.
