T-Mobile now pushing Marshmallow update for BlackBerry Priv

T-Mobile is now pushing the Marshmallow update out for BlackBerry Priv owners. The update has been available for unlocked Priv's for some time, but it is great to see T-Mobile sending it out to its customers. With Marshmallow, you'll have the enhanced permission controls, Doze, adaptable storage and much more.

From T-Mobile's support page:

  • Beginning June 13, the BlackBerry PRIV receives a software update to Android version 6.0.1/build AAE153. This update provides features and improvements:
    • Android Marshmallow software
    • Performance and stability enhancements

If you have yet to receive the update notification, you can check for it manually now. To do so, head into your Settings, About device and finally check for the update.

Verizon

Verizon has announced that it will be discontinuing its paid Visual Voice Mail service on select phones as of July 8, 2016. The service, which previously cost $2.99, allowed customers to access their voicemails in a more visual manner. Those who are using the feature will be transitioned to Basic Voice Mail services, but you won't lose any of your existing messages.

Bell

Bell will have to issue up to $11.82 million CAD in rebates to current and former customers. The ruling is in relation to the carrier charging premium texting fees that were hidden in third-party advertisements without customer approval. This all began back in 2012 when the Canadian Competition Bureau began an investigation into many of the big carriers, including Bell, Rogers, and Telus.
